About Us
Welcome to the Catholic Schools Parents’ Network (CSPN).
Code of Canon Law: Canon 796 §1
“Among the means to foster education, the Christian faithful are to hold schools in esteem; schools are the principal assistance to parents in fulfilling the function of education.”
We are a group of parents in Ireland who value the Catholic education that our children receive in regular, Catholic schools across the country. We set up our group in 2019 to support and encourage parents who have decided to send their child to a Catholic school.
For parents wondering whether to choose a Catholic education for their child or a secular one, click here to our Homepage for reasons to send your child to a Catholic school.
For parents trying to weigh up Catholic home-schooling or regular Catholic schooling, here is a post listing the advantages and challenges of a regular, Catholic education to help inform parents so they can make the best choice in the interests of their children.
We respect the rights of parents to choose a Catholic, denominational, home or seculareducation for their children.
For parents wondering about faith formation in our schools, here is a list of 18 faith initiatives that are currently happening in Catholic schools around the country.
For those who are not familiar with the Religious Education curriculum for primary schools, promoted and endorsed by Archbishop Eamon Martin, you can view it here. The Grow in Love Religious Education programme in primary schools is based on this curriculum.
Here at the CSPN we wish to support and encourage the work of Catholic schools and to protect the rights of parents who choose to have their children educated in the Catholic tradition. We are a voice for Catholic education in Ireland today.
Our blog (see here) features the latest news items regarding Catholic education in Ireland today. It also features Catholic events around Ireland which families can attend to help complement the faith formation happening at home and in the regular, Catholic school. It is important that children have friendships with other children of their own age who also value their Catholic faith.
As well as a blog, we have a Facebook page and we also organise social get-togethers for parents, along with an annual Family Day. We use a WhatsApp group for parents to link in with each other on a very regular basis for support.
We have a strong community network for parents who value their faith and wish to pass this faith on to their children with the help of their regular, Catholic school and the local parish.
